Refuge On A Cold Day
Eastern Cottontail Hideout
January 6, 2011

There was still snow on the ground, swiftly melting (just prior to the snow that fell on January 9th, 2011). We have a game of odds going regarding this rabbit. You see, it hides out here under this or another bushy growth near by and each morning we walk past the area we try to guess which plant it is under an if it is under any plant at all . . . the funny part is when we figure there have been plenty of people who have walked by with their dogs that have most likely sent the rabbit running to a tall pine with low to the ground branches in the Stone House yard . . . only to 'discover' it is indeed still hiding out under the shrubbery and in its bolt to the pine tree it scares the boogers out of us (well, mostly my youngest daughter who screams and leaps about two feet into the air)
On this particular morning we were surprised but my daughter only jumped a little and the rabbit stop near by a large stone in stead of running for the pine . . . then a runner came by and scared the rabbit back into its hideout . . . so we finally got a few nice photos of the rabbit in it's secure little shelter.
